notepad++ crashes if launched from different contexts

Hi,

This could be notepad++ issue, but I am only having problem with TC so I hope someone has an idea for workaround.

I am using notepad++ as my editor (F4) in TC. I use: C:\Work\tools\npp\notepad++.exe "%1" to launch it. The problem is, that if I have notepad++ already open, started from somewhere else, for example, cmd window, np++ crashes on F4 from TC. If I only open np++ from TC it works, but mixing cmd window and TC causes problem.

Any suggestions?

Is TC or CMD running as admin while the other program is not?

I can repro it with both TC and Np++ running as non admins.

That was my original suspicion as well, but apparently it doesn't hold. I also tried to force both running as admins, doesn't help either.

I think I found something: np++ update got installed to different directory that previous version, and I had 2 notepad++ on my machine. So cmd window would launch new version (via path), whereas TC would launch old one, as specified in command. I don't see issue anymore, thanks! :) Phew!

Can't reproduce this with TC 8.51a x64 and x86
using the actual NPP++ 6.7.5 as editor for F4.
No crashes whatever combination I try.

Glad to hear it works now! Just out of curiosity: Did you have two different versions on your system? I can't reproduce it on my system, one notepad++.exe started locally, the other from a network drive (both version 6.7.5) - the running instance is always sent to foreground, as expected.

They were different versions. One was older, the other updated. For some reason, update happened to install into different folder (under program files), which is contrary to what I'd expect, but this is np++ issue, not TC.
