Plugin update ?

Post by *Clo »

:) Hello !
¤ TC itself does not, but maybe some plugins have an automatic update system ?
* Tip : leave the connection to be done, then you could see where your Web browser goes… Just an idea.

Claude

:) Hi again!
I have check my firewall log and Tc tried to connect with 224.0.0.2
* Please, see if there is not a FTP connection pending for that URL, or else, if there is no suspicious *.EXE file (the most time as HIDDEN) in the TC-dir. Some viruses become clever more and more ! Talking of that, you could have a look here
- Indeed, you could try to connect that URL via the browser, but it's risky. However, you would know what it's. I do not recommend, at your own risk :(

* To be continued…

My google search results in this http://www.informatik.uni-bremen.de/~jo/teaching/347-mc/doc/rfc3171.txt

which means in sum up that 224.0.0.2 is purposed to check protocol control traffic and should not be routed to internet.

So I tried just now to ping 224.0.0.2 while my router was disconnected and it did not connect. Another random address did connect my PC with internet.

Hi !, i'm agree with Sheepdog "224.0.0.2" it is purposed to check protocol control traffic not to connect to WWW .

Maybe it's a fault on my Firewall. Thanks. :)

To make it clear, Total Commander does not make any unrequested connections. 224.0.0.2 is not a routed address, so maybe there is a program which tries to check whether internet support is installed or so. I recommend that you check your computer both for viruses (with an up-to-date virus scanner) and for spyware, e.g. using Ad-Aware:

(the freeware version will do)

You could also try Spybot, just in case... Personally, i find it more useful than Ad-Aware and it's also free.

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3
x64: Clients/Servers from Win7 to Win11 and Win2K12Srv to Win2K22Srv, mainly Win10 though.

:) Hello !
¤ The Spybot's site seems to have some problems. Finally, I got the file for a try directly here

224.0.0.2 is not a pingable address but a local multicast address and it addresses "all Routers on this subnet".

Disable UPnP and SSDP service.

Thanks for your answers, i have checked my Pc with Ad-Aware, SpyBot &TrojanHunter and from a MsDos Boot-CD with F-Prot, Norton & Mcaffe and it's clean.

I had used these utilities to disable Upnp time ago "http://grc.com/freepopular.htm" .

My Tc 6.03 always works perfectly and is registered (#62914), i still think that's a fault of my firewall (Sygate).

Thanks again.
