Visual defect: 'Everything' in the search dialog

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Not fit (clipped horizontal) 'Everything' in the search dialog (Alt-F7). 96-110 DPI, 8px Verdana, 1280x1024, XP32.

Unfortunately there is not enough space for all possible fonts, sorry.

Please, I think only 3-4mm solve this problem :) And Verdana is not "all possible", somebody's put it into list of the best readable fonts :) But, if it so difficult - sorry...:(

I think you should not even try to pull the new interface elements close to the old ones.
Since you started to add something new, then do not hesitate to break and remake old things.
Otherwise, the interface will look very chaotic and not intuitive and not user-frienldy.

Indeed these 3-4 mm. - not such a big payment for convenience of the user at its usual work.

It looks even worse when the exclamation mark is displayed in front of the 'Search archives' checkbox.

I agree with Anton here - this dialog needs an overhaul.

Sorry but I don't see a better solution except for removing the "Everything" option - and that cannot be in your interest either, right?

I have checked this Verdana font, it makes about half of the strings overflow their fields here. Not really a good choice. If you insist on using this font, set the size to 6 or 7, and then use the DPI setting on the fonts page to make the dialogs larger.

You can simply rename this option to "NTFS", or remove it, if it is "on" everytime when FS is NTFS, course. I think, it's not bad idea. 7 - is too small, i try it, and 120 DPI - too big :) I use Verdana practically anywhere for XPSP3, it's one remarkable deffect for now.. (with DPI 110).

the same sorry - but again answer is not completely understandable.
you can change the position of these strapped together elements. you have the sources.
or you want to work at a resolution of 800 * 480? but even in this case
you can to develop dynamically resized dialog with dynamically placed elements.

My resolution is 1024x1280 and DPI for dialog boxes in TC is 110. It is maximum for fit almost all texts, without ugly, huge boxes.

about translation it is not a correct topic and not a proper time to talk about.

right now we should wait an answer from ghisler - why this dialog
can't be redesigned.
Considering that in it inconveniently located elements are ~explicitly visible~.
And considering the fact that the TC version received major change, and
no changes in the GUI actually and not visible. And change of this dialogue
would be really significant improvement for the version №9.0...

P.S. (I know about vertical button bar - but it's really not a major change
it's more like long-awaited correction work on the GUI bugs/suggestions)

I played a bit with the dialog. Without reinventing the wheel this is what I would do:

- All in all make the dialog a bit wider but not the height
- Move the strangely located two checkboxes on the left two a second column which aligns with the second row of textsearch options
- Trying to find an overall grid
- The main change: The four text encoding options are now located below a so called menu button. There is a new 'use internal search' checkbox which controls whether or not internal text search is to be used. The logic remains unchanged - one of the three ways to search text must be checked.
I think hiding these options a bit is not a big loss in contrast to the new, more explicit option and the of course the saved space / reduced complexity of the dialog.
