Export and import all settings / prefs / buttons?

Post by *Dazzer »

Hi folks,

I'm working on 3 identical computers and want to know if there's a way that i can easily transfer all settings and prefs that i've set up in TC from one computer to the others.

So i mean all the buttons i've created, the visual settings, etc.....so that when i open TC on any of the computers it all looks the same, without having to set it up 3 times.

Thanks!

the best way i have found (and it was what i do everytime i move from one pc to the next) is to copy the TC dir over.

to be able to properly do that, i did configure on install to have wincmd.ini and wcx_ftp.ini in the TC install dir and not windows. otherwise you can just copy these files across too.

I personally use a "portable" installation of TC where all is located under C:\Tools\TotalCommader folder (tools, script, plugins...) and use wincmd.ini from this folder where i have all the rights. I regularly do backup on a shared folder using sync and build a package using zpaq from which i can reinstall and then run TC configured like my main install.

I do it like this because i do have to use it from many VMs that are regularly reset (no personal apps anymore).

There is no standard way to export settings, you have to do it manually. Go to Help - About and see where your wincmd.ini is located, also you will need your *.BAR files, other files are less important in such case.

I tried matthieup's method and it works, only it doesn't seem to work with the plugins folder, for example the settings for the Cloud plugin aren't transferred...........but copying everything else seems to do the trick!
