When I invoke the directory tree (Alt-10) it takes around 7-9 seconds to display the tree every time and it also takes several seconds to create/delete a folder. I guess it's the processing of treeinfo.wc that takes too long. My treeinfo.wc is not located in the root of the drive since I don't have access there, instead it is in the totalcmd dir. treeinfo.wc contains some 40K+ lines. I have a fairly strong machine with 2G RAM.
Is there anything I can do about this?

Hi and welcome to this forum
An issue of that kind was already discussed in this thread. Maybe this could help you. Did you try to delete treeinfo.wc? You can safely do that, this file is recreated when you use the directory tree the next time.

Thanks for that link. My treeinfo.wc is 3MB in size. Recreating treeinfo.wc didn't solve the problem, so I just removed the reference to it in wincmd.ini and all is fine now (since TC can't write to C: ).
The main problem still remains: I can't use the directory tree (I could if I had 20-30 seconds to spare whenever invoked), since now it has to rebuild every time.
I was wondering if the author has any plans to improve directory indexing?

Are you running an antivirus monitor?
Exclude the treeinfo.wc from scanning in that case.
Another idea would be to put the treeinfo.wc on a RAM drive, there is a free one from Microsoft supporting up to 32MB:

Configuration is by editing the registry, all info on website.
