Multi renaming

Post by *LarsSandberg »

Hi

I read the help file about multi-renaming in TC 5.51 with great interest.
I can see that placeholders gives many possibilitees, but one thing that I miss or didn't found, is to delete a "column" like: Delete characters starting from column 16 to 37

Before:
D:\Deep Dish - Yosh-ABC123-iesque - CD 1 - 01
D:\Deep Dish - Yosh-DEF456-iesque - CD 1 - 02
D:\Deep Dish - Yosh-GHI789-iesque - CD 1 - 03
D:\Deep Dish - Yosh-JKL012-iesque - CD 1 - 04

So the string in the first line example is removed:
"Yosh-ABC123-iesque - "

Result:
D:\Deep Dish - CD 1 - 01
D:\Deep Dish - CD 1 - 02
D:\Deep Dish - CD 1 - 03
D:\Deep Dish - CD 1 - 04

Is that possible? If not, then this is my whish for next point release (5.52) :)
Best regards
Lars

Doesn’t the <clear> part of the “replace with” part of the multirename tool do the job for you? I face sometimes the same problem and what I do in order to tackle this problem is to type in the search field the part I want to be deleted and then use the (usually by default) <clear> function of the Replace With bit. Alternatively, you can insert spaces there (Replace With) to do the very same job! ;)

Of course this is only feasible if the search string is common for all files. In your case that doesn’t apply. I haven’t tried though if the placeholders can be used within the search bit. That could be a workaround by specifying the range of characters.

Hi, search/ replace doesn't go, because the string from column 16 to 37 is different in my example, as you can see:

"Yosh-ABC123-iesque - "
"Yosh-DEF456-iesque - "

Another one:
"Yosh-*-iesque - " in Search for Editbox,<Clear> in Replace with Editbox.

Yes, the Search & Replace support wildcard! I found it just now, :D

Yes, I’ve test it myself too! One more example of discovering “new” TC features after years of use! ;)

Heh! I guess this can easily be classified as an easter egg for that other thread in this forum about… well, easter eggs on TC!!! ;)

Sorry, my mistake. I added this just recently and forgot to document it in the help.
