What about of this trick of some other portable apps?
If TC finds an writable folder named "AppData"
as sub folder of its own folder (where the TOTALCMD.EXE is)
then use that AppData-folder for ALL temp data, like
P:\ath to totalcmd\AppData\Local\GHISLER
P:\ath to totalcmd\AppData\Temp
and also keep the wincmd.ini in the TC-folder,
even without the"UseIniInProgramDir=" setting.
Also set or act like "pluginbasedir=%Commander_Path%\plugins\" (and what else is need)
Also, don't use or query the Registry to avoid side effects?
So all people has to do is creating that AppData sub folder to work most portable.
EDIT:
or make it more modular.
If "P:\ath to totalcmd\AppData\Local\GHISLER" exsists, use this local folder.
If "P:\ath to totalcmd\AppData\Temp"exsists, use this local folder.
Be more stealth portable, use AppData in TC-folder

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.
Re: Be more stealth portable, use AppData in TC-folder
Good idea but I think the temp folder should not be redirected in this case.
Temp may be used from packer plugins for example and there may not be enough space on a small stick.
The temp dir is set per user and not restricted in any way even on corporate environments.
For the same reason thumbnails should be created inside of a temp dir tree.

Support +1!
If you want that just DONT use an AppData-folder inside TC.Horst.Epp wrote: 2023-05-06, 15:41 UTC Good idea but I think the temp folder should not be redirected in this case.

Sorry I don't understand your strange answer.
Creating an AppData folder inside of the TC home dir is the basic idea behind that post.

If you want me to write my answer in german so you can understand it, just say so

Yes and when you create that folder you aknowledge that ALL data is stored inside TCs folder including temp-folder-data.Horst.Epp wrote: 2023-05-06, 16:27 UTC Creating an AppData folder inside of the TC home dir is the basic idea behind that post.
YOU want temp-folder-data excluded from the suggestion witch makes the suggestion itself void, so I propose YOU just dont use it if it gets implemented.

I use since many years a fully portable TC version.
Now on SDD, for many years in corporate environments on USB sticks.
