Can the Quick Search bar rely on the right side of the status bar?

Post by *yahuu »

Currently, it is displayed on the left side, which hinders the information content of the status bar.

But someone also uses QuickSearch eXtended plugin

which makes impossible to shift on the right side completely(((

Unfortunately it would also be harder to look between the text in the quick search bar and the file names above it.

Maybe just move the Quick Search bar down under the status bar - like here: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/quicksearchposition.png

That might work when the command line and the function keys are shown. Both can be disabled which makes the status bar the lowest part of TC's window. In this case you can't move something below the status bar, unless you tolerate window components outside of the TC window (I don't, except for context and maybe popup menus).

That's exactly my case, so I had the same thoughts when I saw the suggestion.

And why not tolerate that - a lot of other components can go outside the TC main window boundaries - Directory history, Breadcrumb menu, Tabs list, Main menu, Directory hotlist, Start menu.

Of couse it should be made sure that the Quick search windows does not go below the available screen area.

Well, all of the other components you mentioned are either at the top of TC's window or can go to the right/left out of TC's window. This isn't the case with the Quick Search especially when considering the suggestion. By default if something goes outside of a (maximized) program window to the bottom it will be displayed above the Windows Task Bar (if that even works when that's always on top by default). This is bad design IMO and isn't something I'd like to see.

it will be displayed above the Windows Task Bar
That is actually how it is right now in TC with the Command Line and the Function Key Buttons disabled - the taskbar is partially covered bt the Quick Search panel - I actually asked for that to be improved, so that TC only uses the available screen area = screen area minus the taskbar.

A couple of pixels on top of the taskbar don't look critical. To remove this defect, it is necessary to equalize the heights of both panels.
But if there is no status bar, then a quick search appears under TC window, and not in the listbox, which looks like a bug.
If the taskbar is hidden, then the quick search bar appears not even above the taskbar bar, but above the bottom edge of the screen.

Maybe the Quick Search bar can be move onto the status bar?
This modification is only to count number, not to locate files that match condition.

The status bar can also be hidden. But it's possible to create two display options with its presence and absence. If it's displayed, move the data to the right, embedding the panel on the left, and if not, leave the current behavior.

Maybe Mr. ghisler has better solution.
I really hope Mr. ghisler can modify it and show both the counting and the Quick Search bar.
e.g:
If we want to know how many "ptx" and "ptt" files in one folder.
Now it needs show Quick Search bar, and type "ptx" then press ESC to return, and check status bar ,and then show Quick Search bar again ,and type "ptt" then press ESC to return, and check status bar.
These operations are too complicated.

Better than what? Have you read carefully what I have written?
How else can be show the input field and the overlapped data in one line without moving them to the right?
