Comodo Internet Sesurity v8: Strange copying of files

Post by *Peter_Pan_A »

Since some time I noticed that TC (in some cases only) does not copy "correctly" time & date of the file (Win 7, 64x, NTFS):
- I copy a file from one dir to another (same logical drive)
- compare the two directories with Shift F2 and the second file (the new one) shows as newer than the old one.

I see - the second file has a new "Modified time" (the current time), the "Created" and "Accessed" time are the same as in the first file. Apparently - because of the newer Modified time, TC shows the second fiel as "newer".

This has never happened to me till now. It happens seldom - only with some files, most are being copied one to one without changing the "Modified" time (I talk about files in the same directories as in the first example).

If I synchronise the same 2 directories the same file shows as different in time (not in content). If I press on the file RB mouse and choose "Copy file properties" - "Timestamp Date-Time" all goes OK - in Synchronise the 2 Directories are the same, with Shift F2 they also show the same, the second file "Modified time" is the same as in the first file, the "Created" and "Accessed" time are the same as before (as in the first file).

I have no idea why this happenes, I tried the previous versions of TC (8.01, 7.57a) and the result is the same. Its the same if I use the "Default method only" or the "Standart copy method (Recomended)".

As a hint to Mr.Ghisler: I use seldomly the Privazer software. There in "In-depth cleanup" it is being explained that Privazer cleans "3- File table cleanup: Cleanup of residual traces in file tables, not only in MFT but in FAT as well, Additional cleanup of INDEX attributes in MFT"... no idea if this has smth to do with my problem.

BR from me :)

Peter_Pan_A,
Any antivirus software in use?

Roman
Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Roman, thank you very much for the fast response!

Interesting suggestion!
I use Comodo Internet Sesurity (CIS), now in v.8. Actually you can be right, as since a week or so I have installed this new v.8 over v.7, and it might well be the reason for the file & time copy problem. I checked at another PC, with still the older CIS v.7, there I can not replicate the problem.

Although this does not say necessarily the problem is linked to CIS, now I suppose - TC is not to blame for this, but the question is - what to ask in the Comodo Forum, where do you think the problem is ?

TC just copies the file and then changes the timestamp accordingly.

Most probably the reason for a wrong timestamp, related to antivirus interaction, is:
The file is blocked by antivirus at the time TC accesses the file for setting the timestamp.

I usually set TOTALCMD.EXE and TOTALCMD64.EXE on the ignorelist of my antivirus.
This makes things faster and is quiet secure due to the fact that TC is aware if his EXE is modified and shows an according message.

The problem I have discribed is apparently because of malfunction of the new version of CIS -v.8. So it has nothing to do with TC! There is a current discussion in the Comodo Forum going on.

Too happy with TC, sorry for blaming it :)

If you didn't change the copy method in TC, then TC uses the Windows function CopyFileEx to copy files. This function also copies the timestamp. You should report to Comodo that they are interfering with this standard Windows function.
