Search below to 4 level in windows 10

Post by *AdamAry »

How to search below to 4 level in windows 10?:

c:\users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramFiles has a folder
myfolder1 and totalcommander did not find the folder myfolder1.
Why?:
c:\users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramFiles\myfolder1
is invisible for TotalCommander?

In the Find files dialog there is a dropdown list to set the search depth level, be sure it is set to All (unlimited depth) or a level higher than the depth of folder you search for.

Maybe you got the parent wrong? There should be a space between "Program" and "Files":
c:\users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files

These folders are created by Windows for legacy programs which try to write to "c:\Program Files", which is write protected. If a program signals that it is Windows 7-compatible (or newer), writing to "c:\Program Files" will just fail instead.

I'm sure it is set to All (unlimited depth):

It's not wrong.

TC can find only this "somefolder" in level 4:
c:\users\username\somefolder

If it's deeper it can not find.
Can TC developers fix it?

For me TC finds entries even much deeper (with and without Everything)
Examples:
"C:\Users\horst_000\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\test\xyz"
or
"C:\Users\horst_000\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\icximxsu.default\datareporting\archived\2016-08"
Windows 11 Home, Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.4351)
TC 11.55 RC7 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1396a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.5.5.0, Listary Pro 6.3.2.88
QAP 11.9.0.6 x64

One of the folders in the path may be hidden or system. If this is the case, you need to enable hidden and/or system files in Configuration - Options - Display.
