To me ".." has a strong *nix meaning, but other may not realize that. We need to consider the history of what ".." was used for before doing these changes I think they are good ideas and should be considerd. Maybe before making these changes we need to replace ".." symbol with another symbol or graphic on the panel (or add "." like some *nix file managers). Users that work in a Windows AND *nix (unix, linux) I think would appreciate the inconsistency of actions we attach to ".." compared to the original meaning made by *nix developers.Vochomurka wrote:Some other suggestions about the [..] line are here.
This post and the other post in the above quote both would confuse the meaning of ".."" with "." even more than it already has been. We only have ".." in the TC window but if you reread the suggestions they are consistent with the object "." (symbol for the current dir). Did Norton commander confuse meanings - yes I think it did but maybe not a good thing to expand on. In TC quick view panel of ".." object is really ".", same goes for the context menu - it is for ".". The only time it really means ".." is for go to parent directory when you select and open it. The suggestion are all about adding actions using "." (the current directory). End of history lesson
