Moving files to parent dir using drag-n-drop on '..'

Post by *wanderer »

When many many files exist in a folder and you've PgDn several pages, you may be able to select multiple files but the ".." does not appear in the panel in order to move them using just the mouse (left-click, grag and then right-click and release left over "..").

Two ideas here.

1. Make the ".." inside the filepanel "sticky". I'm thinking this may not be an easy task though.
2. Make the ".." button act as a drop target. That way one could either left-click and release over the button to just copy the files or rightclick and release left to move them one folder up. :)

I'm voting for solution 2. It seems pretty simple, i just hope it's not one of those 5 minute jobs which takes about a month to finish. :)

In a similar way, the "\" could also act as a drop target, in both those cases though (".." and "\"), perhaps a confirmation message might be useful...

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

You can drag your files onto the breadcrumb bar (path bar) to drop them into one of the parent directories.

1. That's using mouse and keyboard. I'm talking about mouse-only. Sometimes i'm too lazy. :)
2. :o Never would have thought of that! It works though (albeit it opens a new window and requires an extra click). Nice.

wanderer,
Drag the files a few pixels above the file list (onto the column headers or onto the tabs) 0 the file list will scroll to the left.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Hi Roman. Thanks, i knew that. The problem is that when there are many files in the dir and you are in the middle of the list, selecting several files you may want to move "up", scrolling (apart that it may be slow to scroll up to the top) just ruins everything. You keep going back and forth all the time. The "drop on the '..' button" idea assumes that the file move process will keep the selected file pointer after the last selected file (which may be in the middle of the list) and not scroll you up to the top. That way you can select a few files, move them, then scroll downwards to select other files to move, making the parsing the whole folder relatively easy.

It should work more-or-less as MVV's 2nd idea but have the same behavior as when dropping to the ".." item inside the file panel. As is now, you either select some files and use F6, .., Enter, or open the parent folder in the other panel and press just F6, Enter. Both solutions use the keyboard. What i'm proposing is a mouse-only one. As i said earlier, seems like not too much trouble, i hope it actually is and Christian decides to include it in TC.
