Viewing / listening to MP3-files

Post by *karstenjensen »

Once I was able to press F3 to listen to a MP3 or WAV file but not with version 6.54. TC freezes and the onlye way to listen to the files is via WMP.

Can someone help me?

Well - now I have tried it all - but still does not work. I have also tried uninstalling (including ini-files) TC but still it freezes.

I have also tried installing the player mentioned on one of the pages but also made TC freeze and I could never get the plug-in to play any files.

TC just uses the windows media player to play these files, so reinstalling TC should not change anything (make it neither better nor worse). Have you tried that registry tip with "MPEGVideo"?

Hmmmm - this is odd.

Yes I did try that and I have already got a registry entry called that

I thought that TC used an internal player since when (in the past) pressing F3 on MP3-files a small pop-up player opened.

The problem began after installing/uninstalling som of the plugins here from the programs web-site. I now run NO plug-ins /add ons.

I have also deleted all temp folders etc. so that's not an issue.

Does it work if you try running TC with a clean INI?

Code: Select all

totalcmd.exe /i=.\test.ini

Maybe your 'small pop-up player' was Irfanview? It will happily play your mp3s if you point to it in Lister/Options/Configure/Use Irfanview to........

If you also have the mmedia plugin installed, you can switch between the Irfanview player and WMplayer with the '4' key.

Well - I have never installed Irfanview - only TC by default so it is not Irfanview.

Just tried an installation of TC on a second machine - and here it works fine - but not on my main computer :-(

So check if your sound drivers are in order by playing music using Explorer...

I just meant double-clicking on a music file in Explorer and seeing if it calls up WMP to play it without problems. I assume it's all in order there. Does TC do the same when you double-click in its file list? Or is it just Lister that crashes? How about QuickView?

When I double-click on a mediafile in TC it perfectly opens WMP - and plays.

When pressing F3 on an MP3-file it tries to do something - but does not - instead TC freezes. Simply do not respond.

I can use TC's built in lister to watch MPEG-video or AVI and - here comes the mysticsm - it can also play WAV files - but MP3-files - no no no can do.....

TC also freezes on quickviewing MP3-files.

Sure is weird. I can only guess Lister's mp3 association is corrupt somehow. Put your cursor on an mp3 and hit File/Associate with.. and see what mp3 is associated with?

It is associated with Windows Media Player.

Well - I don't know if Listers MP3 association is currupt - sinces I today totally uninstalled TC and reinstalled it.

If I rigth click on a MP3-file and use "View (Lister" TC also freezes.....
